Man trapped under tractor slasher

A MAN has sustained horrific wounds to his lower body after becoming caught in a slasher at Bulla, north-west of Melbourne.
The incident is the third serious farming accident this week.
Earlier today a Greendale man was crushed to death after his tractor rolled.
And on Monday another man died after his tractor overturned on his property near Alexandra, about 130 kilometres north-east of Melbourne.
The latest tractor incident occurred while a man was mowing grass on his property in Glenara Drive, Bulla, at about 3.45pm, Victoria Police spokeswoman Creina O’Grady said.
‘‘He’s got a tractor with a slasher on it and the slasher blades got tangled up in some fencing wire,’’ she said.
‘‘He’s got off to repair it and somehow the slasher has started operating and he’s been caught underneath it. He’s got serious slash wounds from his pelvis down.’’
Ambulance Victoria spokesman Ray Rowe said the man, in his 50s, was trapped for nearly an hour.
‘‘He was airlifted to The Alfred (hospital) in a serious but stable condition,’’ he said.
Rural Ambulance spokesman John Mullen said the man suffered lower leg fractures and pelvic injuries.
Earlier today, a 51-year-old man died when his tractor rolled and crushed him against a tree about 12.30pm at Greendale, about 80 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.
The man had been grading a private driveway in Shuter Avenue.
His death, which happened on the verge of the roadway, brings the state’s road toll to 270, compared to 272 this time last year.
WorkSafe attended the scene and police will prepare a report for the Coroner
